Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Men

The Tour of Britain continued with a flat day around Stowmarket, which got to welcome the race for the first time. It was a stage that followed the pattern of the opening one, with again four riders in the breakaway and the peloton again gradually bringing them back after allowing the quartet to open a three-minute maximum gap.

Remco Evenepoel took over the reins in the peloton in the final five kilometers, seriously stretching it before peeling off the front, his job for the day done. His teammates then did their best to bring Luke Lamperti in a good position, and the young American sprinted to seventh at the end of this second stage, won by Olav Kooij (Visma-Lease a Bike), who retained the leader’s jersey.

For Lamperti – a stage winner just a couple of weeks ago at the Czech Tour – this was the eighth top ten of the season, a series he kicked off in March, when he finished a strong third at Nokere Koerse. The 22-year-old from California is also Soudal Quick-Step’s top ranked rider in the Tour of Britain general classification, where he sits not far from the top ten ahead of Thursday’s short stage to Ampthill, where the winner should come from another bunch sprint.
