Pepijn Reinderink concludes the race in the top 15 overall.
One day after Ethan Hayter delivered Soudal Quick-Step’s 120th victory in an individual time trial, the race continued with a demanding 176.4km stage – the longest of the week – that concluded in the country’s capital.
Soudal Quick-Step’s Casper Pedersen booked a spot in the breakaway that put in a strong effort on the many hills of this rainy fifth day of competition and at one point enjoyed a three-minute advantage. Their spell at the front ended with 40 kilometers to go, when a couple of the general classification men attacked and opened a solid gap on the overall leader of the race. From that small group, Romain Gregoire (Groupama-FDJ) rode clear on the steep gradient leading to the final kilometer and took the win.
Pepijn Reinderink, one of the team’s most prominent riders at this edition of the Tour de Luxembourg, came home around one minute behind the winner and made a nice jump in the final ranking of this 85th edition, concluding it in the top 15 – his best GC result since turning pro.
