Another strong result for the 21-year-old from Lommel.
Senne Hulsmans finished third after a strong display in Izegem Koers, delivering our squad’s fifth podium there in the last decade. A member of the Soudal Quick-Step Devo Team, the Belgian rode for the World Tour outfit Thursday afternoon, when he scored his fourth top-three result of the season.
The 177km race was a fast one from the start, when several riders tried to form a breakaway, but it was only after 80-odd kilometers that a group featuring Warre Vangheuwe and Matijs Van Strijthem went away. Despite a good gap and a nice workflow, the group was reeled in in the finale and the day culminated in a bunch sprint, where Hulsmans showed his impressive speed to conclude in third place.
“I am very happy with this result. Coming back after a training camp in Spain I wasn’t sure how the legs would be, but I felt good today. The team did a great job the whole day, and in the last kilometers they positioned me perfectly. I was in the slipstream of the two guys who finished in front of me with 200 meters to go, but they were just a bit too fast. Still, it’s an important podium that gives me a lot of satisfaction and confidence for the next races”, Senne said at the finish.
