Second title in three years for our Devo Team’s Belgian rider.
Jonathan Vervenne became the first rider in almost two decades to take multiple titles at the Belgian National ITT Championships. The 21-year-old, victorious before Thursday also in 2023, powered to another convincing victory, this time on the 33.9km course in Heusden-Zolder. The success came just five days after another impressive win, at the Chrono Challenge Poperinge, and confirmed Vervenne’s status as one of the finest time trialists on the U23 scene.
Soudal Quick-Step Devo Team’s rider averaged an incredible 49km/h and stopped the clock in 41:26, putting 18 seconds into runner-up Matisse Van Kerckhove (Visma-Lease a Bike Development). It was our feeder squad’s third success of the season, and the most important one so far, which came on the day another Devo Team rider, Federico Savino, concluded a strong fourth overall at the Tour de Bretagne.
“It is an incredible day. I’m really happy to win the national champion jersey in this discipline that I love so much. Everything went according to plan today, and I want to thank the team for their incredible job, because it wouldn’t have been possible without them. After a difficult season last year, I am delighted to take the victory here. I was motivated by the fact I wasn’t far from home and left everything out there. It was hot today, but I am glad I could pull it off”, said Jonathan after his seventh victory in the Soudal Quick-Step Devo Team jersey.
