The 20-year-old surprised himself in Sunday’s time trial.

William Junior Lecerf took his second victory of the season, quite unexpectedly, in the Memorial Igor Decraene, an individual time trial held in Waregem, over a 21.2km course. Coming off a strong Tour de l’Avenir, which he finished in fifth place, Lecerf produced his best ITT to date, clocking up a time of 26:14 – nine seconds faster than runner-up Victor Vercouillie (Bolton Equities Black Spoke).

It was enough for Lecerf to take his second win this year, after the one he got in the Course de Côte Herbeumont. For Soudal Quick-Step Devo Team, this was the 26th victory of an incredible season, which has seen the squad rack up victories in five different countries so far: Rwanda, France, Belgium, Italy and The Netherlands.

“I had the ambition to do a good time trial, and before the start I was thinking that a podium spot would be a nice result at the end of the day, but didn’t imagine I could win. This victory serves as confirmation that I am becoming better and better in time trials and I am very happy with this”, said William, who next year will turn pro with Soudal Quick-Step.
