Biography
A pure climber, Junior made the transition to the World Tour recommended by a bunch of solid results racked up in 2023, and just a few weeks into his pro career, he confirmed them by a remarkable runner-up place at the AlUla Tour, after a brave ride on some of the steepest and most punishing gradients of the season. At the Tour du Rwanda, less than a month later, he powered to his first pro victory and finished fourth overall, results which were soon followed by a couple of more strong displays, culminating with a solid outing at his first Grand Tour appearance – La Vuelta a España.
“Riding in the same team with Remco Evenepoel and all the other extraordinary riders here was very special and made for a great experience in my maiden World Tour season. I can be satisfied with how things went, with the progress I made and the good results I had, especially in the first part of the season. I am part of a huge team and this makes me proud every single day. I know I can do more and I am determined to make another important step forward this year while at the same time helping the squad go for its goals.”
