Biography of Klaas

A pro between 2009 and 2015, with participations in Grand Tour and Monuments, Klaas was forced to put an end to his career before turning 30, due to heart problems, but that didn’t stop him from remaining involved in cycling as a sports director, a role from which “I give all my energy to the riders to help them win races.”

Klaas came aboard at the end of the 2018 season and was “super excited to join Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl, one of the best teams in the world, not only because of the success and many victories, but also because the mentality everybody has and the way they go through fire for each other and work together as a team. I am still quite young and very motivated for this role, but I hope and believe I can add value to the group of experienced sports directors and be someone the riders can trust.”

Hailing from the Flemish city of Roeselare, Klaas has a huge affection for the Classics and the tension around these races which stir the imagination of riders and fans alike every spring; when he is not at the races, Klaas loves to play and watch snooker – especially when the phenomenon that is Ronnie O’Sullivan is involved – and listen to some deep house music.
