Biography
One of the finest Basque riders this side of the century, Mikel joined the team ahead of 2024 ready to take on a new challenge at the age of 34. A top three finisher at the Giro d’Italia on two occasions (2015 & 2022), he has built a solid palmares over the years since turning pro in 2011, and continued to enhance it as part of the Wolfpack.
Hailing from Murgia, a small town in the Alava province, Landa brought to the team not just his strong climbing skills, but also an invaluable experience gained over the countless Grand Tours he rode in the last decade. He was vital last July, helping Remco Evenepoel finish in third place at the Tour de France, where he placed fifth despite the all-out effort in the mountains – a testimony to his quality, fighting spirit and remarkable climbing skills.
A runner-up spot in Catalunya and another top ten, this time at his beloved Vuelta a España, rounded out a perfect first year in the Soudal Quick-Step colors for Mikel – one of the peloton’s most magnetic figures – who looks forward to the challenges and goals lying ahead: “It’s true that I turned 35 last December, but I still feel great and confident, as I know that I am capable of delivering some good results. This first year in the squad confirmed to me that Soudal Quick-Step is an incredible team and I have a lot of motivation to give my best again and help the Wolfpack reach 1000 victories this year.”
