Biography
In his first season back with Soudal Quick-Step, Maximilian Schachmann took two wins – including the ITT National title, which he had been chasing since his early days in the pro peloton – finished a remarkable third overall at Itzulia Basque Country after a demanding week of racing on the steep climbs of the region and played an important role in many of the team’s victories.
Motivated by this, the always-smiling German has big plans for 2026: “I think that last year was a good one on a personal level. I enjoyed being back in blue with the Wolfpack, and that motivated me as I got my season underway in February. I can be content with the way things went, but I am hungry for more, because this is my mentality. I have two main goals for this season: to continue improving and to reach the level I had last April, in the Basque Country, because if I am able to do that, I know I can do some nice things. I’m also looking forward to the Ardennes Classics, and even if it’s a long way until then, I would like to be at the start of the World Championships in Montreal, as it’s a course that I like quite a lot.”
