Biography
The 23-year-old from Meldert was another rider who turned pro after a stint with our development team, and was determined from the moment he pulled on the iconic Soudal Quick-Step jersey to show what he is capable of. In a number of races, he was there for the squad, emptying the tank in the service of his leaders and playing an important role in many of our successes. In addition to this, Gil twice finished top ten on the general classification, at Okolo Slovenska and the Deutschland Tour – one of the oldest stage races in the world – at the former taking home the best young rider jersey thanks to a solid performance on the climbs.
“I knew that my first pro year would be more about helping the leaders, but I also got some nice opportunities to try something and see what I can do, and for that I am grateful to the team, as it just shows they treat everyone equally and give chances no matter if you are a neo-pro or an experienced rider. For me, Soudal Quick-Step is the best team in the world and the place where I can learn what it means to be a pro rider and become the best version of myself.”
