Soudal Quick-Step U19 celebrates its ninth victory of the season.

Maksymilian Matyasik took the spoils at the end of the Junior Rundfahrt’s second stage, which was held around the town of Sarleinsbach and consisted of four laps of a hilly circuit. Despite being just 94.5 kilometers in length, the stage was a challenging one, wearing out the riders and splintering the peloton long before the uphill final.

The young Pole, who before this race already had two wins under his belt since the start of the season, began the day around one minute behind the overall leader, but that didn’t stop him from going on the attack, keen on making the difference. Matyasik rode away in the closing kilometers and scored another impressive victory, nine seconds clear of the riders who rounded out the podium – a result that helped him move up two places in the general classification, where things are far from being decided with one stage to go.

“I am very happy with this win. Our team rode a great race and we had the plan from the start to go on the offensive and try our best in order to get a good result at the end of the day. I had a lot of confidence, not just because we have such a strong team here, but also because I felt I had good legs from the start of the stage. I went on the final lap and once I got a gap, I just kept going. It’s amazing to have three victories in my first season with this fantastic team, it’s something that motivates me to keep working hard”, an elated Maks said at the finish.
