It was another hot day at the World Tour race.
Two classified climbs and lots more unranked ones made up the course of the sixth stage, which travelled from Chur to Neuhausen am Rheinfall. On paper, a day for the few fast men in the race, but the breakaway – despite numbering just three men – made the peloton work hard in order to make the catch, which happened with just one kilometer to go.
The bunch sprint, a hectic one, was won by Jordi Meeus (Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe) thanks to a late acceleration, while Pieter Serry concluded as the best placed Soudal Quick-Step rider, in 18th place. Ilan Van Wilder came in the same time and remained tenth on the general classification with two important stages to come.
The first of these will be one for the climbers and puncheurs, who’ll have to overcome some really steep gradients in Emmetten, a small town in the canton of Nidwalden, whose origin dates back to the 12th history.
