No changes in the standings of the World Tour race.
Unlike Sunday, when the weather played a huge role and helped some pre-race favourites gain minutes on their Tour de Suisse opponents, Monday’s second stage was a sunny and much quieter one, which didn’t bring any shake-ups of the general classification and came down to an uphill bunch sprint.
The three riders who zipped clear in the opening kilometers of the day weren’t allowed to put more than 1:30 between them and the peloton, where a number of teams joined hands in order to bring back the escapees, which they did with 20 kilometers to go. This led to other riders attacking, without any success though, and the 177km stage concluded in Schwarzsee with the victory of Vincenzo Albanese (EF Education-EasyPost), while Antoine Huby finished as the best placed Soudal Quick-Step rider.
The Tour de Suisse continues with another hilly stage, suited to the puncheurs but also to the GC men, who’ll have a chance to try something in Heiden, a small town in the Appenzell Ausserrhoden canton, who will host a finish at the race for the first time since 2014.
