Two victories in the space of just five hours for our junior riders.
Sunday was a perfect day for Soudal Quick-Step U19 at the Côte d’Or Classic Juniors, whose second edition got underway in the morning with a hilly stage between Saulieu and Précy-sous-Thil, two small towns in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region.
Already victorious this season at Gent-Wevelgem, Sune De Valck made a brave attack together with one other rider, a move that had a good gap before being joined by a strong eight-man group on the last climb of the stage, with around 14 kilometers to go. They continued together until the finish, where the 17-year-old Belgian emerged as the fastest, taking both the stage and the first leader’s jersey.
In the afternoon, Soudal Quick-Step U19 racked up another success, in the 15km-long team time trial, where our squad stopped the clock in 20:11, a result that will see the young wolves start the final stage of the competition with four riders in the top ten.
“I’m very proud and happy with how our day went. On the opening stage, I attacked on the local lap and we opened a gap. When the others came across, we worked well together, and in the sprint I just had a lot of confidence in my chances and did my best. I’m glad I was the fastest and could savour another win, after the one in May. We did a great team time trial later in the day and took another victory, so it was a dream day for us. We are determined to give everything on Monday and hopefully we’ll bring the overall win home”, said Sune, who also leads the points classification at the Côte d’Or Classic Juniors.
