Fourth success of the year for our feeder team.

Federico Savino took his first victory in the colors of the Soudal Quick-Step Devo Team, arriving alone at the finish on the hardest stage of the Circuit des Ardennes, which travelled from Charleville-Mézières to Aiglemont, over a 145.8km hilly course.

The penultimate day of the race comprised eight classified climbs before a steep uphill finish, on a 1200m unranked ascent averaging 8.3%, and the riders of our squad meant business from the start, attacking with Leander Van Hautegem. Even after the Belgian got caught, Soudal Quick-Step Devo Team remained extremely active, and in the final 20 kilometers, as the race began to fragment, managed to place three riders in the front group: Gauthier Servranckx, Viktor Soenens and Federico Savino.

The 19-year-old Italian zipped clear with five kilometers remaining and opened a gap which he carried all the way to the line, where he claimed the team’s fourth victory of the season. Savino was joined on the podium by Viktor, who finished third, just eight seconds behind.

“The whole squad was very strong today on what was a hard day of racing. Federico showed he had a good condition these last couple of weeks and was very motivated today, as was the entire team. It’s a great moment for him and a well-deserved one, his first win in the U23 ranks. We can be proud of this victory and the way we raced today”, said sports director Kevin Hulsmans.
