The Czech rider has agreed on a new deal, which will take his stay with the team to five years.

Having joined Soudal Quick-Step in 2021, Josef has become a favourite amongst the team’s riders and staff for his humour and demeanour, as well as the hard work that he puts in for his teammates.

But in addition to spending countless hours pulling on the front of the peloton, Josef has tasted success himself several times recently, the most prominent of which saw him wearing the Tour de Romandie yellow jersey, following a successful ride in the prologue. Time trials are something of a speciality to the powerful Cerny, who has been National Czech Champion in the discipline several times, as well as leading him to overall victory at the Tour of Slovakia last year.

Speaking of his agreement, the 30-year-old said: “I am very happy to have signed to continue with Soudal Quick-Step for two more years. The Wolfpack have become my second family and I am enjoying my time with them, so I was happy to get the chance to stay here. I have had some good results, and I want to continue to progress my career, while also working hard for my teammates and helping them to deliver in some of the biggest races.”

Soudal Quick-Step CEO Patrick Lefevere was also content with the new deal: “Josef is a really important building block in the team that I am trying to build. He works very hard for his teammates, often using his immense horsepower to pull along the peloton for long periods. But he is capable of taking some important victories for himself as well, especially in a time trial. He is also an important character to have around the bus and is very popular amongst the riders and staff, so we are very happy to have him for two more years.”
