Our new partner will provide the team with the most up-to-date medical assessment equipment available, including a portable ultrasound scanner that can be used wherever in the world the riders are racing.

The partnership will see Deceuninck – Quick-Step join a network of sports medical experts like FC Barcelona, Manchester United and Real Madrid that use Canon Medical’s products, including synergies with the medical staff of FC Barcelona. As well as providing market leading equipment, the medical team of Deceuninck – Quick-Step also joined recently the Barça Sports Medicine Conference, organized within the Barça Sports Science Week. A high-profile event focusing on sports medicine, physiotherapy, nutrition and performance, which was attended by the world’s best sports medical staff, where they had the opportunity to share experiences and ideas for best practice.

Canon Medical’s mobile ultrasound scanner, that has been trialled by Deceuninck – Quick-Step’s medical team for several months, enhances the squad’s reputation for embracing the latest technological developments. The unit is around the size of a tablet computer and can be used to give an immediate diagnosis on muscle injuries, detecting tears and the presence of fluid. The ability to be able to immediately detect the nature of an injury and determine and method of treatment in a swift manner, without the potential need for a hospital visit, can vastly improve a rider’s chance of making a quick and successful recovery.

Team Doctor Toon Cruyt has been leading the medical staff’s use of the unit and said: “Having the Canon mobile ultrasound scanner has significantly evolved the way that we look after our riders. The nature of the sport is fast moving and geographically challenging, making hospital visits difficult. Being able to use the scanner in a quick and efficient manner wherever we are to give an instant diagnosis of a muscle injury can make a huge difference to a rider’s recovery. As well as a valuable piece of equipment, Canon Medical have provided excellent support and having their knowledge and expertise behind us can only enhance the care that we can offer our riders.”

In addition, the team at Canon Medical have gone above and beyond in their support for Deceuninck – Quick-Step, with providing a Canon EOS 90D camera and Canon EF 70-200mm and EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lenses. The aim of the extended partnership is to highlight the value that Canon’s marketing leading cameras and equipment can provide in helping to capture creative and beautiful looking images and videos, even in the diverse surroundings of the world’s leading bike races. The team will be looking to use the equipment to provide fans with high quality and innovative new content throughout the season.
