Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Rigoberto Uran met with the media on Wednesday, accompanied by all the top GC contenders of the peloton, to discuss the upcoming Giro d'Italia. The first Grand Tour of 2014 starts on May 9th, and ends on June 1st.

The Colombian rider placed 2nd in the overall classification in the 2013 edition, and also was a stage winner. He won the Maglia Blanca in the 2012 Giro d'Italia.

"This is my first big race as a captain," Uran said "I'm excited for the opportunity. The team is united around me and we have all taken a good approach to the Giro d'Italia. I had a good feeling at the last part of Tour de Romandie. It's crucial to be ready for all three weeks of this Giro. These threes stages in Ireland are going to be complicated stages. They're windy, they're cold, they've got some narrow, rougher roads. It's similar to race conditions in Belgium. They're going to be very important in the long term. We have to take it day-by day. It's very important you go looking for time every day and be immensely consistent. it's the consistency that wins Grand Tours and I am very focused on that aspect going into the Giro. I will do my best in the Omega Pharma - Quick-Step colors as the leader."
