Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Martin Velits made the original breakaway of the day at 137km Tour of Britain Stage 6 on Thursday, which was caught with 5.6km to go in the stage. That is when a flurry of attacks happened on the final climb to Haytor, all by riders trying to steal a stage or gain time on GC leader Bradley Wiggins (Sky ProCycling).

However, Sky ProCycling continued to ride back to all attackers. OPQS rider Michal Golas was able to stay with a select group of about 10 riders until 1.9km remained in the stage.

A late attack in the final few hundred meters by Simon Yates (Great Britain) earned him a solo victory. Martin Elmiger (IAM Cycling) was 2nd, and David Lopez Garcia (Sky ProCycling) was 3rd. Golas finishwd 11th, and is now 8th in the GC.

OPQS looks next to a 150.4km Stage 7 on Saturday.
