Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Peter Velits was part of an eight man attack group that managed to stay away on Tuesday, at Trofeo Deia. Unfortunately, Velits and two riders lost the wheel of the other five men on a climb, with 11 kilometers left of the 151 kilometer race. "In the first break made up of 13 riders we had Martin Velits, (Kristof) Vandewalle and (Kevin) De Weert who rode a good race" explains Team Trainer Tom Steels. "In the final the race situation changed. Once the breakaway got caught we played our card with Peter Velits who did a great job to get into a break. However, Peter paid for his effort; it was the first race of the season for him and he couldn't keep up with the riders who ended up playing for victory. Along the climb at Col de Soller the team set the pace at the head of the group to do some selection in service of Gerald Ciolek. Unfortunately there wasn't any cooperation to catch up with the break. Ciolek got a good 10th place anyway at 45 seconds from the winner. Overall we're satisfied with the team's work. The squad is showing that it is in good health even on the climbs and in some phases it controlled the race very well."

Gerald Ciolek finished 10th— the highest finisher for Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team.

Martin Velits and Kristoff Vandewalle made an initial breakaway, and then Peter Velits made the second breakaway that stuck.

Julien Vermote crashed twice in a descent, but suffered no injuries.

The team continues to be a factor in Challenge Mallorca, including two straight stage wins for Andy Fenn on Sunday and Monday.
